May’s faves

As the end of May approaches I thought I would share with you some of my new favourites I’ve been using this month!

Sadly, my teenie tiny but oh so precious bottle of Sunday Riley’s Luna oil is empty. Having loved the addition of retinol to my skincare routine I was on the lookout for a replacement (without the £85 price tag). I saw an offer on QVC for Alpha-h’s new product, Beauty Sleep Power Peel and decided to go for it (£39.96 with free P&P). The Power Peel is a retinol and glycolic acid containing luscious cream which you apply to cleansed skin just twice a week. It has quite a thick consistency and neither a particular pleasant or unpleasant smell but as long as it works , I don’t really mind. It has a matte finish which is good for me as I do find the oiliness of some face products annoying when going to bed ( *face must not touch pillows).

So the good news – it does work and I’ve definitely noticed an improvement in the scarring I have around my chin and jaw line from hormonal break outs over the years. On the nights I have applied it, I awake with visibly glowing skin with only very very minor peeling (hardly worth mentioning) on the odd occasion. Although it is tempting, you really don’t need to use this product more then twice a week, which is good because it means it will last longer! When I first started using Sunday Riley’s Good Genes I think I was a bit excited and initially applied it every night. That was until it almost became painful and irritating and I realised you really need to respect retinol/ glycolic acid products, your skin does not need to be ‘peeled’ that often!

Just in case anyone has the same issue I did…you remove the clear plastic lid and press down on the white plastic thing and the cream comes out from the centre! In my defence I think I was post-nights…

On to my next May favourite! I don’t know about you but I do like a good nose in the bathroom cabinet when I go home to my parents (or to aunty Lorraine’s, her’s is better). Anyway as I was looking through, my eyes were instantly drawn to the L’Occitane products I had bought my mum for Christmas and as I had conveniently forgotten to bring my face wash back with me I just had to try their make-up removing oil cleanser. I’m not going to lie, I had a moment in that bathroom. It may have been 2am and 2 bottles of wine down  but I knew this was good stuff! The next morning confirmed it. First of all it smells amazing! Secondly, it makes removing make up a dream, literally took off my whole face in seconds. You can do the whole cotton wool pad thing but to be honest I prefer to pump it into my hands and massage it around my face then rinse with water. My skin feels lovely and clean yet really soft afterwards. At £22 it’s not cheap but a little goes a long way with this product!

My next two faves were a lovely gift from my hubby after he returned from a trip away. I obviously have heard of Kiehl’s and have sampled their midnight recovery oil before but that’s as far as it went. It took me a couple of weeks to start using them but as soon as I did, they had my full attention. The Ultra Facial Cream is so soft and moisturising! My skin feels really smooth and hydrated. It contains Antarcticine which is a Glycoprotein extracted from microorganisms sourced from sea glaciers, so it will provide an extra layer of defence for your skin against the elements (doesn’t contain SPF though).

The Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner was a pleasant surprise. My heart did sink a little bit when I saw that my husband had got me such a big bottle of toner as I don’t really use it! My experience with toners is that they just seem to be expensive water that don’t really add anything? However this one is different. As you can see from the photo it has a milky consistency which is really gentle and moisturising. It contains lovely things like Apricot Kernel oil, Avocado oil and Vitamin E. It’s alcohol free so doesn’t have that stripping feeling that some toners have. It works really well if you use the toner and facial cream together!

So that’s my round up for the month! What are your favourite products you’ve been using this month? Leave a comment below.
