For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I’ve just returned from a two week adventure in Thailand! I had an amazing time and will be sure to tell you all about it in future blog posts 😉 Today however I thought I would share with you all the makeup products I used whilst away…
Having been to Thailand at the same time last year, I knew it was going to be hot and by hot I mean highs of 39 degrees!! For that reason I don’t wear any make up during the day, just in the evenings when its cooler…a mere 29 degrees! High humidity and make up don’t go well together so here’s what I use to try and prevent that shiny forehead look.
I always use a primer to help keep my make up in place. When I’m on holiday, Photo Finish Luminizing primer by Smashbox is my number one choice. Not only is it oil free, it has a subtle bronzing effect which helps to give you a sun kissed glow. I always end up with a white face and a tanned body so this really helps to bridge the gap. The fact that I have it in travel size is a bonus! (more room for other make up 😉 )
When it comes to foundation and (hot) holidays, I tend not to wear any. Finding the right shade for an ever changing skin tone is a nightmare! If you feel you need some coverage like me, try a tinted moisturiser like Nars. It’s still sheer enough to let any freckles show through (beautiful) but will just help to even out your skin tone and remember to go a couple of shades darker then your normal colour!
Next I apply Mineralize skin finish natural by Mac in ‘give me sun!’ (love the name). On holiday is literally the only time I can wear this product as I stupidly bought it when I had a tan ( 2 weeks out of the year doh!). I use it as a contouring powder as it has a matte finish so it’s great at warming your skin tone in a natural looking way.
At this point I then sweep Clinique’s translucent powder all over my face to set my makeup and to help with shine control. I then add a little pop of colour to my cheeks using Clinique’s blush powder in smouldering plum (a personal fave). Again this has a matte finish which I deliberately go for as I find my face gets shiny enough with the humidity without throwing shimmer into the mix. Then finally I finish by adding a dab of Kevyn Aucoin’s Liquid Lighting to highlight my cheekbones (decanted into the small pot on the right). This is a great product, very light weight and adds a beautiful glow to the skin!
My eye palette of choice had to be Modernist by Hourglass in Obscura. Such a great palette! A gorgeous mix of shimmery bronze colours with a dark aubergine for lining the eye ( great for green eyes). You can create a lot of looks with this palette which comes in a convenient size to take on holiday.
I know you’re thinking these lipsticks look the same colour but they wear very differently I promise! On the left is Rouge Dior Baume in Belle de Printemps (448). This doubles up as a lip treatment in addition to adding a beautiful dewy coral glow to your lips. The more pigmented out of the two, the colour really pops! The second is Rouge Coco Shine in flirt (69). This provides a sheer coverage in a softer coral and gives a lovely shiny finish. Both great for a bronze goddess look!
That’s the best photo I could find to show you what it looks like when it’s all put together. We *may* have forgotten to bring a battery and a memory card for our digital camera so everything was taken on an iphone…do not pack on a hangover I believe was the lesson learnt.
Would love to know your thoughts and if you have any product recommendations, I’m always keen to try new things out!
